Saturday 5th August

Inverclyde Thrash League Leaders

East Renfrewshire        105 all out    (0 pts)
Inverclyde                      106 for 2      (25pts)

Inverclyde gave their best performance of the season at Gourock Park on Saturday when they outplayed league leaders East Renfrewshire with a good team performance in a comprehensive 8 wicket victory .

Inverclyde's Flicx roll out artificial wicket was again used due to the very damp wicket after the recent heavy rain, with the visitors impressed with the wicket after initial scepticism.

Inverclyde had the best possible start when experienced opener Sa Silva edged Craig Watson's first ball to be taken with a good catch by Paul Singh high at slip.  Singh then had Uran caught behind with the visitors at 20 for 2.  Visiting captain Shabbir, top of the Division 3 batting statistics, and opener Wood built a good partnership until Wood mistimed a drive off change bowler Chris Dick's first ball to be caught by Scott Campbell at point for 24 runs. Dick and Campbell then bowled fine spells of accurate medium pace bowling that stopped East Renfrewshire in their tracks.  Campbell bowled Ashraf with a good ball that cut back to take off stump and Dick enticed Shabbir forward to attempt the drive only to fall for 48 to Douglas Pilkington's sharp stumping.  Dick trapped Shah leg before and then bowled Bilal and Hammad, both playing all round straight balls.  Campbell completed the rout with 2 wickets in 2 balls, the first a fine catch low down at point by David Thomson,  as the visitors' innings closed on the 34th over at 105 runs, having collapsed from 70 for 2 after 20 overs.  Dick took an excellent 5 for 17 in only his second game for the club, Campbell 3 for 14, Watson 1 for 26 and Singh 1 for 43.

Inverclyde's opening batsmen, captain Dave Cooke and Craig Watson, gave a good start to the innings until Watson was bowled in the 6th over at 21 for 1.  Number three Thomson batted well against the visitors' accurate bowling attack in a 23 run partnership, including a fine shot to the square leg boundary, until he was bowled for 10 runs in the 16th over with the total on 44.  The game was evenly poised at the 20 over drinks break with Inverclyde on 53 for 2.  However Cooke and Pilkington then built the innings steadily, the captain hitting 7 boundaries as he reached his half century in the 30th over.  Pilkington provided good support and scored the winning runs in the 32nd over to finish on 21 not out with Cooke playing a fine captain's innings in his undefeated 52.

This good victory moves Inverclyde up to mid table and knocks East Renfrewshire off top spot.
